Kubota Abstractions

Much like the Car Abstractions entry I shared recently, this series began with rediscovering an old Kodak Photo CD from 2002.

At the time, I was wrapping up classes at Northern Virginia Community College before transferring into the Multimedia Design and Development program at American University in Washington, D.C. The images in this set were created for a photography class project focused on identifying “hidden details” within a larger object. In this case, the subject was a Kubota excavator.

The goal of the assignment was to isolate form, texture, and abstraction—seeing familiar machinery in unfamiliar ways. I had a lot of fun working through the project, both in the shooting process and later during the classroom presentation. My instructor liked the results enough that he kept copies of the images to use as an example of a successful execution of the assignment.
